Little bit of this & that..

Sometimes I feel really crummy when it comes to "fitness" and my rants and raves about how good it is for you ...because as much as I LOVE the gym, working out, and being healthy... I still succumb to my lazyness and poor snack cravings!! Does that make me a hypocrite?

Anywho...

Today I squeezed in a short workout at home that got me sweating like no other:
40 JJ
15 squats holding a 20lb dumbbell
20 lunges holding a 20lb dumbbell
40 mountain climbers
5 burpees with jumps
50 bicycle crunches
40 second superman (I had to look this one up!)
10 pushups
40 high knees
20 vertical leg crunches
40 sec plank (killer after leg crunches!)
40 mountain climbers
20 squats holding a 20lb dumbbell

The other day I was running short on gym time. By the time I got there and was ready to go, I had 37 minutes to get in a workout. I managed to run a quick 2 miles and speed walk 1.3 miles at 12.0 incline on the treadmill all while burning a good 450 calories or so! It was refreshing to get my run on, its been a while since I have full out ran. I hate winter for that reason, just not a huge fan lately of running on the treadmil, but spring is just around the corner and I can NOT wait...not one little bit! :)

Side note: I went house hunting yesterday for the first time! Let me just say, pictures online do not do any justice. By that I mean, the houses were much worse in person than online! Blah! I may have found one I like, but it is a true fixer upper, as in the entire house needs fixing. Good thing I have John and Nita to help me...their creative minds are probably more excited about a fixer upper than this girl. If you know me, you know fixing/paining/remodeling just aren't my thing! But secretly, I am excited to have my own home that I get to design/decorate etc!

Sore is the feeling of success!

A little bit off track on my last post, but back to the fitness...

I. am. so. sore.

I had a session with my trainer the other day, she asked what I wanted to do. I said to teach me something new. FYI I am very weak so to some of you, my workout would be a cake walk! But I will get there...

I did 3 sets of a variety of exercises including 50 lb squats, 45 lb clean/press, 10 lb dumbell squat rows, weighted reverse crunches, 5 min run, push ups, burpees, high knees/butt kicks, 10 min spin...and a few more. It seems so easy but I was shaking by the end and am still sore 2 days later.

Last weekend I got in a good workout I came up with my own including lat pulldowns, leg press, mid row pull, russian twists, assisted pullups/dips, ball crunches, shoulder press, and a few others...not as intense as my most recent workout but a good one!

I see and feel a strong difference in my quads! LOVE it!

I may not get to the gym everyday, but I do make every workout count!

Continue the challenge!

I am on day 6 of my ab/squat challenge! Yesteray's workout has left me quite sore! I did my challenge exercises as well as added in a few others to get my sweat on!

91 unweighted squats
51 situps
30 jumping jacks
30 mountain climbers
25 bicycles
10 ab wheel rolls
40 second plank x 2
I also did some arm training just using a 5lb and 20lb weight dumbbell. Not much but I did enough reps til it hurt!

I even made it to the gym for a slow paced 5K (3.1 miles) on the treadmil and 10 minutes on the rower at the highest resistance.

I am up to 95 squats for my challenge. To some people it seems like nothing, but I can already feel a difference in the muscles in my legs! :) They also have benefited in my running. I hadn't ran for quite a while and I ran those 3.1 miles as if I hadn't taken a break from running!

Aside from keeping up with my challenge, I am about to face another! I just turned in my papers to go active duty Army!!! I am so excited, yet nervous as hell! It's going to be a challenging life change that I am so looking forward to!

I hate being...

lazy!! I have been extremely lazy lately and it's annoying actually. I guess I just don't have the motivation I should to get up and go. I've also been so tired, no matter how long I sleep, I am exhausted! I guess working 12 hour over nights don't help, do they!?

Today, however, I woke up with the intention of not being lazy! Here is the lazy-girls workout that gave me a run for my money this morning...

60 crunches
30 bicycle crunches
30 push ups (on knees)
30 squats
30-60 second plank
25 jumping jacks

I did this 3 times, and I was just as sweaty as if I had went to the gym and used the weights. If you want to make it more difficult, add more reps or some hand weights.

To make it a little more challenging, I did the workout with Briahna, and she gave me some of her kindergarden gym workouts too! 5-5-5 (5 situps, 5 push ups, 5 jumping jacks), yoga moves, tushy kickers, flutter kicks, and of course her own made up moves such as the bumble bee and the tinker bell! :) Get your kids and family involved, it makes working out that much more fun!

You can get an awesome workout just using your own body. I will post another workout tomorrow using just your body. It's convenient especially if you are like me and don't have time to get to the gym, have a chaotic schedule, or are just having a lazy day!

As for my healthy eating, I am still doing well. Of course I have cheat meals/snacks but it doesn't keep me off my game. I think to really see if I am making progress, I am going to get all my body measurements and keep track that way, as weight doesn't always do justice.

I had a girls night out on Friday, went shopping and out to dinner. I found some awesome deals on some new fitness gear at Scheels, JCPenny, and Lady Footlocker. PS if you are military, Footlocker offers 20% military discount! You really can't beat that! I've gotten all of my shoes there along with some pretty nice clothes too! If I could wear sweats everyday, I would! Love them! Can't wait to rock my new Nike gear!

< I want to run this again with no sweat! Practice makes perfect, right?
